2023 Retreat

The 2023 annual retreat was held on 20-22 September in Ystad. Arrival during the afternoon or evening on 20th September and departure after 16 on 22nd September. The retreat was open to PhD students enrolled in Swedish universities. It was also possible for recent PhD graduates to apply depending on whether there was a place. The graduate school paid for travel costs and the retreat (accommodation and meals).

This first retreat was a way to map and create a new community of scholars in the field of East and South-East Asian Studies. The retreat enabled PhD students to present/discuss work in progress with senior scholars and guests (depending on PhD students' research focus, around themes or specific issues such as methods etc and in smaller groups). The retreat also had sessions on publication advice with editors and senior scholars, as well as on career advice beyond the PhD.
